In the opening to his cover of Patti Smith’s “Rock n’ Roll Nigger,” Marilyn Manson screams “I was made in America, and America hates me for what I am. I am your shit, you should be ashamed of what you have eaten.” At the risk of comparing a doughy windbag ass-clown to an iconic rock n’ roll star, truer words might not be spoken of Donald Trump and his presidential campaign which, while stoking the ire of a vast bipartisan contingent of the American public, has also inspired a groundswell of fanatical support from some of the darker recesses of the American landscape most often regarded during flyovers between New York and Los Angeles.

Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party: Uncomfortable Bed Mates

In a recent article on the use (or lack thereof) of the term class warfare, I made a passing jab at FoxNews and the Tea Party. I’m not a fan of bandwagons and broad generalizations that may make for easy writing but ultimately unsatisfying reading, and so I thought it worthwhile to further explore these comments in the interest of measuring their veracity. Because as much as Liberals and Occupy Wall Street sympathizers and/or activists may abhor the idea, in its earliest inception and at its most fundamental core, the Tea Party had a lot in common with the Occupy movement.

I’ve been told by a few readers that my blog posts demonstrate an unabashed defense of everything Democrat and MSNBC and a disdain for everything Republican and Fox News. In fact, dour curmudgeon that I am, I disdain both Democrat and Republican, MSNBC and FoxNews. (I should mention that I’m only ignoring CNN because everyone else seems to ignore them, too.)

What’s Wrong with Class Warfare, Anyway?

This morning marked the first time that I heard someone ask the seemingly obvious question: “What’s so wrong with using the term ‘class warfare’?” And while this may just as likely have been said, though for entirely different reasons, by the likes of Sean Hannity or Mark Levine as by Rachael Maddow or Al Sharpton, this question was instead posed by the endearingly buffoonish Donny Deutsch, chairman of Deutsch Inc. and frequent contributor to MSNBC’s Morning Joe program.

Recently on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Sheryl Sandberg’s name was mentioned during a panel discussion on the issue of powerful women in the workplace. Sandberg was touted as a prime example of the sort of women who have penetrated the glass ceiling to occupy traditionally male positions of power and secure tremendous (in Sandberg’s case overwhelming) financial prosperity.
